Bluebells at Sunrise - British Photography Awards Landscape Winner 2024
I'm still blown away to say that I was awarded the top spot in the Landscape Category of the British Photography Awards 2024. I received the award at the Gala Dinner in the Royal Lancaster hotel in London, on November 4th 2024.
This category is extremely competetive - with photographs ranging from many far-flung 'dream' photography destinations, from Greenland to the Faroe Islands, from Iceland to famous US national parks.
In seeing the shortlist, quite frankly I never truly thought that my photograph would win. The range of work from fellow photographers was breathtaking - and I can only congratulate them for being shortlisted.  I would strongly recommend that you have a browse of the shortlist - each of them had the potential to win and I have thoroughly enjoyed browsing them on more than one occasion.
My photograph caption summarises the depth and emotion I have attached to it... I've included it below:
"Months of perseverance and scouting led to this capture. This woodland is local to me, but took some time to find 'the' specific woodland and composition I wanted - then I waited through the entire bluebell season to get this shot with many early alarms and failed attempts. The weather in 2024 was consistently grey with low pressure, now allowing the conditions I hoped for. This was captured just at the end of the bluebell season, due to the cobwebs being spun on the bluebell flowers. The light was perfect, with the warm sun casting beautiful sunbeams through the fresh green leaves of the ancient beech trees in this copse. This specific photograph is pleasing due to the light splitting the scene, with a distinct sun beam cutting the scene in two. Above is the canopy and beautiful leaves, below is the stunning light and bluebells, creating a balanced, ethereal and magical springtime scene."
