BBC Article - The Long Shadow - Siena Awards Drone Nature Win

Christopher Harrison, from Oxfordshire, scooped first prize in the nature category at the world's leading international drone photography competition, the Siena Awards, in Italy, on 27 September.

I was really pleased to have my win from the Drone Photo Awards from the Siena Awards featured on the BBC News website, following a chat on BBC Berkshire about my trip to Siena.

"The Long Shadow was captured at Brightwell Barrow near the Wittenham Clumps, where a small group of trees stands on a small, raised hill.

Mr Harrison said it highlighted "a perspective that you can only get with the flexibility a drone can give you"."

A solitary small group of trees casts a long dark shadow across a fog-covered arable field on the slopes of Brightwell Barrow, near the Wittenham Clumps in Oxfordshire, as low winter sunrise strikes horizontally through the mist. The aerial perspective reduces the scene to near-pure geometry: a diagonal line of darkness dividing cold blue shadow from warm amber light. The tree reads as both subject and instrument, the agent producing the image's central tension.
