Hidden Woodlands & Landscapes, Madeira

Fanal gets the attention, deservedly, but this forest covers a good deal of Madeira and most of it has nobody in it. These were made away from the well known spots - along the levada paths, in the gullies where the cloud sits all day, and in a few places I found by driving until the road ran out.

The light is harder here. There is no open plateau to work with, so it becomes about finding a gap in the canopy and waiting for the fog to do something. When it works you come away with a scene nobody else has photographed, which is worth a great deal to me. And don't forget the classic sunset above the clouds photograph - there are a couple of those in here too.
