Cathedral of Fog

Fanal Forest · Spring

Crepuscular rays break through ancient laurisilva canopy in low morning mist, the gnarled moss-draped trunks framing a luminous gap in the forest interior. The diffuse atmosphere renders mid-ground trees as silhouettes, compressing depth and lending the scene an otherworldly stillness characteristic of Madeira's Fanal plateau. Captured at dawn in late May, when seasonal mist regularly pools among the laurel woodland.
