The Hanging Gardens of Fanal

Fanal Forest · Spring

Crepuscular rays break through a canopy of ancient moss-draped laurel trees in the laurisilva forest of Madeira, the low morning sun casting discrete shafts through residual cloud mist. The gnarled, lichen-encrusted boughs and hanging epiphytes frame a path of leaf litter, giving the scene a quality of great antiquity. The starburst sun in the upper right anchors the light source with precision.
