The Fallen One

Cairngorms National Park · Winter
Awarded All awards →

At first glance, this tree looks to be standing on a hilltop, covered in hoar frost, backed by a beautiful deep blue sky. However, on further inspection it becomes clear it has fallen onto it's side into a remote Scottish Loch. This was captured in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland, on a bitterly cold winters morning, in December 2025. Whilst it was well below freezing, the water had not frozen as it was the first day of this cold spell.

This morning was difficult. The clouds were thick and the light was flat and uninspiring. Before I made it back to base, I decided to fly the drone quite simply to see if there was anything of interest from above. Low and behold, I found this tree that had fallen into this remote loch. It was so perfectly positioned so that it looked like it was still standing, but only when you look closer it becomes clear it had fallen and is in the loch waters. This is a scene I love and the blues look perfect printed.
